SJMC Activities

In addition to the stimulating weekly worship service, St. Jacobs Mennonite Church provides many engaging activities, weekly and throughout the year, to nurture all ages in spiritual growth and greater maturity. While many of the following activities are not coordinated by Christian Formation, they are designed to nurture, promote Christian growth, generate community and assist mutual caring and development of Christian community.

  1. Sunday Morning Study Hour - A weekly study hour for all ages from toddlers to adults, including youth, and a parents class.
  2. Evening Lectures - periodic special weekday series throughout the year.
  3. Bible Study - periodic special weekday evening series to enhance intergenerational Bible study.
  4. Vacation Bible School - Active leadership and participation in a highly successful and stimulating annual five day community Vacation Bible School, for children who are finished JK to the end of grade 8, hosted by all three churches in town (Calvary United, St James Lutheran, St. Jacobs Mennonite).
  5. Fellowship and Community Formation - activities including specific themed family nights.
  6. Youth Groups - active youth groups and ministry.
  7. Sunday Supper - A weekly potluck supper for young families but everyone is welcome.
  8. Men’s Breakfasts - with speakers, book studies or service ministry opportunities.
  9. Library - an excellent church library with quality Christian literature, fiction and non-fiction for all ages.
  10. 'Connections' Small Groups - inviting all adherents to experience the fellowship and care of a small family oriented care group.
  11. “Life Together” - a vibrant cross-generational congregational periodical featuring congregational activities through story and photos, faith enhancing articles, introductions to new people and other features.
  12. Congregational Prayer Chain - to alert the faith community of special or sudden needs and prayer concerns.
  13. Seniors Group - to provide special activities and events for the older members of the congregation.
  14. Prayer Shawl Ministry - knitting group which meets weekly and distributes comforting prayer shawls to many people in many contexts.
  15. Shepherds' Ministry - assigning individual shepherds to be responsible for support and care of all congregants and families.
  16. People designated as information contacts to encourage members to be involved in and supportive of many service ministries in the community.
